TYPEDBYTOM

My name is Tom, I’m a former fashion and editorial photographer, occasional designer, and currently working in education as a curriculum technician. TYPEDBYTOM is a venture of mine which has spawned from my love of writing, videogames, and photography. What is posted here will reflect my personal views and interests, but the main focus will be games - although there will be forays into other subjects too from time to time. Below is a slightly more detailed summary of what you might expect here:

These posts are the bread and butter of the blog, from these you can expect my opinions on the world of videogames (for the most part) and related topics, be it memories of gaming, or just a vague point on something in particular.

Like the 'THOUGHTS ON' posts, these too will make up much of the blogs bulk. These will be similar in style, however they will be quasi-reviews, looking back on games that meant a lot to me as a child, some that I had vague memories or interactions with, or things that are brand new to me. Think of it as a written playthrough.

These posts will be semi regular and will be focused on a long running project of mine called [VR]Ography, which details my exploration into the practice of photography of and within virtual worlds. I started this project in 2015 and the posts begin there, going through my work within the project, and will eventually lead to the new work I am creating today.

These posts will be interviews on various people within or adjacent to the videogaming or photographic world. The posts will be a little sporadic, but hopefully as my ability to write questions become swifter, these might be more frequent. If you know of someone who might be a good interviewee for the blog, please do get in touch. info[at]typedbytom[dot]com

Another set of posts about videogames, however these will be focused on game with particularly good soundtracks. Not so much a review of the music, but an appreciation.

By far and a way the least interesting of my posts (hopefully). These will serve as updates on the goings on with the blog, whatever they might be.

Similar to A Journey Into the Virtual World, these posts will be limited in scope and sporadic, focusing on my time as an editorial fashion and portrait photographer. Within these posts I’ll feature some of my work and give a little context and behind the scenes.

These posts will be a little less regular, and probably a little more finite. Having been interested in photography since my teens, and having worked as a professional fashion and editorial photographer for over a decade, I have acquired quite a collection of cameras - these posts will basically be a show and tell, looking at the oddities I have collected over the years.

These will be the least numerous of all the posts I do (unless I am lucky enough to travel more). I expect a yearly or bi-yearly trip is on the cards as things stand, so you can expect a post like this rather infrequently.

If any of that sounds interesting to you, please do consider subscribing, there may be additions to the roster in time, but for now, that’s the blog. All posts are free to view, and thus no paid subscriptions or pay-walled posts will be set. I enjoy writing, and I want what I’ve written to be read! That being said, if you would like to contribute, you can, if you are feeling particularly generous, chuck me a few quid over on Patreon. Any money raised there will be put back into the blog, either to buy books for research, to buy games to talk about, or fund whatever else might improve the content here. Thank you!
